Who we are

From cinema to eco-energy and electrical grid: the reliability evolution

IREM was established in 1947 at S. Antonino di Susa, a small district located at thirty kilometres west of Turin, thanks to the creativity and geniality of its founder, Mario Celso.

Keen of electrotechnics and cinema since he was young, at the end of the '40s Mario Celso succeeded in realizing his dream by achieving the first electromechanical rectifier for carbon arcs used for cinema projections. From this first rectifier, a complete product line devoted to the supply and the ignition of discharge lamps took form.

In the '50s the production of micro hydroelectric power plants started. The turbines are able to generate electric energy exploiting the head and the flow of the water streams.

In the next decade the production expanded with voltage regulators, a range rapidly developing thanks to the growth of electronics and informatics.

At the end of the 80's, conscious of the energy saving and thanks to the great experience acquired in the control of the electrical supply, IREM marketed a new product range destined to optimize the lighting management: the luminous flux regulators.

In 1992, in Los Angeles, Mario Celso was granted the "Scientific-Technical Award" by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his contribution to the development of the movie industry.

The company has developed thanks to the technological innovation of the four product lines till to gain a leading position in design, manufacture and sales of electric and electronic equipment for the electrical supply control, operating in the following sectors:
- Powering of discharge lamps for professional applications;
- Protection of electric users against line disturbances;
- Luminous flux regulation in lighting plants;
- Power generation by hydroelectric turbines.
