Who we are
Crown Equipment Corporation, headquartered in New Bremen, Ohio, USA, has been a family-run business since its inception in 1945. Today, Crown is one of the world’s largest companies specialising in state-of-the-art material handling solutions, employing 14,000 people worldwide. Crown’s European head office in Munich, Germany, is the administrative hub coordinating the activities of all Crown subsidiaries and dealerships in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India (EMEA), including product development, distribution and marketing. Crown also operates a tight-knit international network that combines fully-owned facilities with authorised dealerships to provide the best possible on-site support to customers across the region. One of Crown’s key manufacturing facilities, which produces lift trucks for European and global customers, is located in the Bavarian town of Roding, Germany.
Crown’s robust, efficient lift trucks reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) in the warehouse and have earned the company a reputation for advanced product design, smart engineering, proven reliability and high productivity. In addition to a comprehensive range of lift trucks, Crown also develops automation and fleet management technologies. This combination generates superior added value for customers, who benefit from innovative up-to-date products and solutions designed to enhance real-world logistics performance while simultaneously reducing operating costs. Crown has always prioritised long-term customer relationships over short-term profits.
Multifaceted range of products have been acknowledged by multiple awards
Crown’s product portfolio includes a versatile range of tough, long-lasting lift trucks suitable for almost any application and any industry – from the unique, multifunctional WAVE® Work Assist Vehicle to hand pallet trucks and reach trucks through to narrow-aisle turret trucks and counterbalance trucks. They all share one thing in common – a commitment to top quality and productivity, combined with exceptional ergonomics and ease of operation. Crown has won many national and international prizes and awards for its products.
With QuickPick® Remote, Crown has introduced a uniquely innovative order picking technology. The system significantly improves traditional order picking processes and increases order-picking productivity up to 25 per cent. Since its introduction in 2014, QuickPick Remote has been granted five renowned awards for its outstanding innovation and efficiency, such as the IFOY Award (International Forklift of the Year), the iF Design Award and the German Design Award. In April 2015, Crown extended the system to another application. The new QuickPick Remote Lift Technology controls the lower and lift functions of Crown’s ES 4000 and ET 4000 stackers.
Crown’s product range is completed by InfoLink®, an innovative, high-performance fleet management solution. An intuitive, user-friendly interface gives decision makers instant access to a wide array of meaningful information on parameters such as truck utilisation, energy consumption and repair costs. InfoLink was presented with the IFOY Award 2013 in the “Forklift Truck Solutions” category.
Crown’s Access 1 2 3® control system provides secure, PIN code-protected access to trucks, truck status updates and a comprehensive built-in diagnostics function. The latter allows engineers to test components and troubleshoot issues without removing covers or connecting notebook computers or handsets.
In May 2015, Crown launched two new highlights in the counterbalance truck segment, the innovative, gas-powered C-5 Series with up to five years warranty and the highly versatile SC 6000 electric three- and four-wheel forklift series.
Production – made in Bavaria
Crown’s vertically-integrated manufacturing is unique in the industry, allowing the company to keep tight control of product quality and sustainability, and respond flexibly to the most complex and detailed customer requirements. Up to 85 per cent of the components used in Crown products are developed and manufactured in-house by Crown. The modular design of Crown lift trucks means that spare parts are readily available, because identical components are used across multiple series and models. In Europe, spare parts are distributed by the parts centre in Munich, which ships the parts by overnight delivery directly to engineers’ vans or customer premises throughout Crown’s core European markets.
Crown manufactures products for the European market and broader, global distribution at the company’s manufacturing facility in Roding, Bavaria. Originally the plant only produced hand pallet trucks and truck components. Now Crown’s entire European manufacturing operation is concentrated on the site, which produces a broad assortment of truck models – from pallet trucks to low-level order pickers through to reach trucks with lift heights of up to 13 metres. Mid 2014, Crown expanded production capacities in Roding by opening an additional new state-of-the-art manufacturing.
Crown’s other manufacturing facilities are located in the USA, Mexico and China.
