Siemens SmartLinx® modules are used for providing direct digital connection to commonly-used industrial communications buses with real plug-and-play compatibility with Siemens-manufactured products.

Modbus® communications is widely used by several Siemens Milltronics. SmartLinx cards need to be used for added modules of communication.

They are quick- and easy-to-install and can be added whenever required. The module is easily pluggable into any SmartLinx-enabled product's socket without the need of any secondary private buses or gateways or additional wiring. The load on engineering and maintenance staff is reduced as the module does not require any additional boxes for network connection.

With SmartLinx, all the data, including measurement and status, is generated from the instrument, and all operational parameter modifications are allowed to be made over the bus.

For transferring over the bus, the user has a choice in selection of data in the application layer. The selection results in bandwidth and memory savings, data throughput optimization, and increased network speeds, giving consumers the ability to connect more instruments to the network.
