Electromagnetic clutches and solenoids are generally used as methods for transmitting and shutting off motive power, and require electrical and other kinds of wiring. Selectable clutches can be operated using a switch lever to "lock", "free", and "one way" positions, and do not require electrical wiring. A switch type can also be selected, depending on usage.
