The CG Substation Gateway uses a controlled and secure interface to offer remote access to the substation data. It enables enterprise connectivity to an incredibly wide sphere of substation data, such as remote data viewing, optimized input for the enterprise historian, remote viewing of device settings, the subsequent alteration to substation settings, and the automatic storage and retrieval of fault files.

An OPC interface for historical or real-time data is offered as well as a native PI historian interface. A secure pass-through link to the substation IEDs can be facilitated via secure encryption and authentication. This enables the vendors' toolsets to remotely interface with the devices. NERC CIP compliance is supported, which means multifactor and single sign-on authentication can be achieved by interfacing with the enterprise level security server, as well as centrally controlling the passwords and authentication.

The gateway is thus a source of data for planning and management as well as facilitating maintenance and fault response using secure remote access technology.
